Chris Martin Tinnitus
Did you know that Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, suffers from tinnitus?
Martin started playing in a band while in middle school. As you may know, the band he later formed, Coldplay, went on to become world famous. By the time Martin was 25 years old, though, he had begun to experience headaches and ringing in his ears. Doctors warned him that his music career might be over if he didn’t protect his ears, so he now wears hearing protection when he plays with the band and attends concerts.
“Looking after your ears is unfortunately something you don’t think about until there’s a problem. I wish I’d thought about it earlier,” Martin said in an interview with the Daily Mirror.
This story demonstrates two things: one, that it’s really important for young people to protect their hearing, and two, it’s still possible to attain success even if you’re facing a serious obstacle like tinnitus. For a musician, tinnitus can be debilitating issue that can impede the effective creation of music, and can disrupt their ability to perform as well. Pete Townshend of The Who is notorious for having severe tinnitus. Musicians in particular are at high risk due to the noise exposure their face as part of their workplace.
