Tinnitus is a condition that causes a sense of noise in the ears, usually described as a kind of ringing sound, although the sound can manifest in other ways. The condition is not dangerous, unless it is associated with other conditions. Patients who sense a ringing tone that mimics the heartbeat should have additional testing done to ensure that a more serious condition is not indicated.

Causes of Tinnitus

It is thought that Tinnitus is generally caused by exposure to loud noises, thus patients who suffer from the condition are advised to stay away from extreme noise. It’s also been suggested that the condition (which can also be brought on by ear infections) is more prevalent in people who suffer from depression. Though Tinnitus is not dangerous, it is understandably aggravating for those who suffer from the problem, and the condition obviously interferes with regular hearing. The good news is there is hope for those who suffer from the malady, in the form of a tone to cure tinnitus.

A Possible Cure

Living with Tinnitus can be challenging, and those who suffer with it have looked long and hard for a cure. A hopeful possibility in the treatment for the condition has arrived, and it’s a tone to cure tinnitus that’s often referred to as “residual inhibition.”

In essence, this tone to cure tinnitus treatment works by exposing the patient to what is referred to as a “quieting sound” that is within the pitch range of the Tinnitus sound in the patient’s ear. Brief exposure to these sounds seems to bring about a lessening of the Tinnitus sound, sometimes for brief times but often for longer periods. In some cases, the Tinnitus can be permanently healed, but that effect appears to be rare.

Studies of the “Quieting Sound”

Though the Tinnitus tone cure, “Quieting sound” effect isn’t fully understood, the cure is being studied. One finding is that the Tinnitus tone cure seems to work best in healing the condition if it is started soon after the onset of the hearing loss.

How does it Work?

The Tinnitus tone cure seems to work by in a sense replacing a sound tone that is missing due to hearing loss. After hearing loss, the brain “misfires” a tone to replace the sound input that has gone missing. The treatment with the quieting sound seems to replace the tones that are missing, thus alleviating the brain of the need to replace the tone, which is the Tinnitus sound.

Studies on this cure are still ongoing, but the results look positive, and the treatment is hopeful as well in that it is safe and medication free.
