Hi Jagg,
Thanks for your questions!
  • How close to accurate must i be in judging my tinnitus tone on the slider? i know “as close as possible” obviously, but as i am not an audio scientist, i really don’t know if “close enough” means within 5 kHz or 50 or 500.
  • How do we know when we are “as close as possible”? is it the moment where the tone is nearly out of my hearing range, i.e. the point at which it starts to fade to nearly inaudible?  here are some of the numbers i wrote down, in the order i felt that “Aha!” moment … but then i would try another level and would have another “Aha!” moment .. which is why i don’t feel a lot of confidence in where i determined my notch to be:  9060, 8944, 9158, 8732, 8798, 8878, 8732, 11090, 10566, 9812.  i finally settled on 9812.
Tuning accurately can be a challenge, but keep at the process, and repeated practice seems to produce better results. Your tinnitus volume should hopefully decrease if you tuned within the acceptable margin for error.
  • I can still hear my tinnitus over the white noise. Is that ok?
Listen at approximately the volume of your tinnitus.
  • I should have noise cancelling ON, right?
Yes, to block out external noise that could ruin the notch. However any pair of headphones that reliably block out external noise will work!
  • What activities can i do while i listen to white noise? i mean, 3 hours a day is a lot of time! is reading and email/web stuff all i can do? Or can i turn down the white noise and listen to the radio? Must i be indoors, or can i be out in the garden?
You can do anything and be anywhere as long as external noise is blocked out. Listening to other sounds at the same time will remove the effect of the therapy. The range of listening time was 1.5 – 3 hours daily.
  • If i can fall asleep on my back with the headphones on, is that a good idea? that could end up being more than three hours.
There’s no data on whether it works when you’re sleeping so we’re not sure.
  • If i’m listening on my laptop and not my iPad, how bad is it to get up every so often, meaning having to take off the headphones .. is it bad to interrupt the sequence?
We would recommend limiting interruptions to greater than 30 minutes of frequency. The minimum recommended daily time is 1.5 hours split into three equally long segments, but you can also listen continuously. There is no data on how much, if any, the effect is reduced with interruptions and with a given frequency of interruptions.
  • When will you develop apps for iPhone & iPad?
Fortunately – our stream is already working for mobile devices! Therefore you can listen with a mobile device like an iPad without downloading any apps or tracks!
